Go crazy guys!

Seriously guys. Amazing right. And you know what makes this even better? It is located a mere 2mins walk from Pavilion Kuala Lumpur, basically it is across the street. There is 2 other places that you can cover while you are within this area as it is located just next door to each other – Museum of Illusion KL (will blog about this in my next post) and the mural behind Lot 10.

You know what, this is my recommendation if you happened to be in Pavillion or Jalan Bukit Bintang area. Spend probably half a day or perhaps a full day (if you include shopping lah) and cover these places:

• Selfie Museum KL
• Museum of Illusion KL
• Mural at Hutong (behind Lot10)
• And nearby this area, where you can reach via grab or/and walk (a tad too far to walk though)
• Jadi Batek Gallery at Jalan Inai
• Rumah Penghulu Abu Seman at Jalan Stonor
• And ends you trip at Jalan Alor for dinner (mostly non-halal) or Ain Arabia/Arab Street on Jalan Berangan, or perhaps you might prefer the malls’ eateries.

This is the part that I find it weird, like seriously weird. Well, you see… a bunch of us visited the Selfie Museum by Samsung Galaxy (like 20+ of us was there) and I hardly see anyone taking any selfies, most of us (me inclusive) asked our friends to snap a picture for us. No! No guys! We are not supposed to do that, its selfies (wefies pun ok lagi) … why lah no one took any selfies? But can I really blame them? After all, the rooms are really and truly amazing – vibrant, colourful, catchy and most importantly Instagrammable (penting tuh).

One must know that some of the 9 rooms are being sponsored by well known brands such as :

General Tips from non-selfie-lover.

• Plan your attire wisely, my suggestion is go for non-printed design and perhaps light/pastel colours
• Browse thru the hashtags or their Instagram on poses so that you can recreate during your visit
• No props are require, am sure you can make use of whatever available there (takut tak menang tangan jer nanti)
• We were given less than 10mins per room (due to our large crowd), if it is the same for you guys – time well.
• Solo visitor - most of the room looks better if the photos are being taken by another person (Seriously. Despite that it is called the Selfie Museum. Ahaks)
• Allocate sufficient memory space on your mobile. Kid you not!
• Come early. As you can adjourn to Museum of Illusion next door and mural photo session right after.
• Remember to hashtag #SelfieMuseumKL when you post in the Instagram

Eagle-feeding in Kuala Selangor

Pasir Penambang, a friend Chinese village by the river; famous for its fresh seafood, restaurant and eagle feeding.

Yup! You heard me right, alright. Eagle feeding.

And yes, it is in Kuala Selangor (sure you guys ingat Langkawi ajer ada kannnn).

Popularly known for its fresh seafood and seafood restaurant, Pasir Panambang sees Malaysian from all walks of life, visiting this quaint little fishing village often to enjoy sumptuous Chinese style seafood at an affordable price. But since a few years back, it has garners tourist to enjoy not just the seafood, but other activities as well, namely a trip to Sky Mirror, fireflies boat cruise (kelip-kelip in Malay) and now, eagle feeding.

Still an underdog amongst other activities (famous one being the Sky Mirror – you can click here to know more), I find eagle feeding is more on the relaxing side, especially for those who wants to take a breather and just spending time on the boat – watching nature takes it course. Well, in this case, a bit of incentives for the eagle – chicken skin. Few things that I gather is that, boats are coloured differently as it help the birds to tell the difference between the tourist boats and usual working boats (and all this while I thought all animals are colour blind, silly me [eyes rolling]). With this distinction and conditioning, the eagles knew when and which boat came to feed them. Another conditioning act that is being done by the locals is in ensuring the feeding time is consistent; between 3pm to 5pm daily.

Originally, there were approximately 30 nesting eagle pairs along the Selangor River, but now, it has grew to 200 to 300 eagles. The most common ones are Brahminy Kite Eagle, White-bellied Fish Eagle and Crested Serpent Eagle, to name a few. Occasionally, tourist will be greeted by seagull hoping for a piece of the meat (chicken skin I mean).

Brahminy Kite Eagle is found in the Indian subcontinent such as Southeast Asia, and Australia, and in Malaysia, they prefer mangrove forest and is therefore a lowland forest bird. As for the White-bellied Fish Eagle, they are usually sighted in coastal areas as well as inland. It is often rested in a tree, or soaring over waterways near the mainland searching for prays. Crested Serpent Eagle on the other hand is very common in all forests in Malaysia. Similar to the other two, Crested Serpent Eagle can also be easily found in lowland, mangrove and sub-montane forest.

The whole activity takes between 30mins to 40 mins (inclusive of the boat journey), and I have to say and share, the amount of eagles spotted is massive. Even more than the ones in Langkawi, I kid you not. It was such a joy watching them glide and dive for the food.

Sijangkang | Selangor's Natural and Intangible Wonders

Promise you, this will be a short entry as I am very much speechless when I visited this beautiful and astounding place. And still am, as I write this piece. Nothing changed. Nothing will change my view of this place.

Teamwork.

Perseverance.

Ambitious.

Cost approximately RM1mil plus a lot of hardwork and what us Malaysia call ‘semangat bergotong-royong’, the community of Sijangkang recycled this piece of empty mangrove land to an attraction for both locals and outsiders. Determine to make SIjangkang a popular and a go-to destination, the locals self-funded this project and built a 1km mangrove boardwalk with the intention of further expansion. Hoping to turn this site into a family oriented hang-out, a nature extreme park, a place for nature-lover to enjoy the wonderful wildness and for the historical buff to explore the history of Sijangkang and its first ‘benteng tali air’ of which they are proud of. There is an activity for everybody.

Mangrove boardwalk. Sounded easy and simple right.

As I walk, I was in awe of the execution and their attention to detail, the local team even placed a description of the plant in order to educate the younger generation of our nature, inclusive of Sijangjang tree. Yes….. Sijangkang is a tree.

Along the boardwalk are huts/gazebo for one to rest or have a picnic break. During high tide, one can even take a board ride…. Hemmmmm (I would love this). Aside from the boardwalk, they also build a jamboree site or camp ground together with barbeque pit. A playground, picnic spot, public toilet, solate place, small warung that sells evening food (kuih-muih) and etc. Very thorough right? I told you that it is very well thought through. ‘Impressive’ is an understatement.

Not to worry, as of my trip there, the boardwalk is free or perhaps by now it would cost RM2-5 of which I feel everyone will and can easily oblige. I do encourage for us to donate, to encourage and support their effort.

When asked ‘Who built this boardwalk? Who is the contractor?

The answer was “Kita. Orang kampong, secara bergotong-royong. Yang ada kudrat, sedekah kudrat, yang ada duit, sedekah duit. Dan yang mampu bagi bahan, kita dapat bahan”. He answered proudly.

I too was proud when I heard this.

Makes me feel blessed being a Selangorian.

Things To Do in Sijangkang

Spending some quiet time at McDonald’s is a bliss.

I get to write on my impending blog post, like a few hundreds of them. Ahaks.

Here we go, my story on Sijangkang.

To tell you the truth, I kept thinking this Sijangkang (village) name came from a legend, a folklore; similar to Batu Belah Batu Bertangkup. I regretted not asking them when I was there… I bet I get to hear some interesting story about how this friendly and homey village got its name. Anyway, that is not the story that I will be telling, I will be telling you a story about how a village able to collaborate harmoniously and create an attractions without the help of government bodies. Purely on dedication. Devotion. And Love for their own village, married with clannish spirit *wink*.

As I we approach the mangrove (I will write a separate story on this cos it is way too amazing to include it here), I was told what and why they do what they did.

If you haven’t heard of Sijangkang then you are on losing end, and I highly recommend that you do a day trip there (or perhaps a full day, day trip there and make sure it’s on Saturday). Start it early I would say, on a Saturday morning (as hinted earlier)…

Local (food) galore

Feast your eyes (and tummy too) with Banjarese and Javanese food, and trust me, you will never regret it. In fact am planning a weekend trip with my cousins just to sample their food. Again.

You’ll get to learn and try our lepat, ketupat, lemper, tumtuman and lepet (a slight different from lepat yah) and if this doesn’t amaze you, try their tauhu sumbat goreng ie tauhu sumbat goreng ayam, tauhu sumbat goreng daging, tauhu sumbat goreng udang and etc. This is absolute delish. Kid you not. Then there’s their nasi lemak, kerabut and dagang (talk about variety, they brought east coast to Sijangkang)… Don’t let me start on their kuih muih of which I forgot to take some pictures.

Don’t miss out on their Banjarese food such as Ayam Berlaos (click hereto know more) and all the fresh seafood catch of the day as well as their fresh petai. Yup! Petai. My. Favourite.

Go Go-Karting at Mozid Racing.

Who would have thought right, go kart racing course in this very suburb place. The price is pretty reasonable and it makes a good place for family activity. No professionals here, except the locals and few outsiders having some fun.

The kart rental is RM35 for 10minit and the track rental for pocket bike is RM20 per day, where else cub prix and private kart is at RM50 per day.

Animal Shelter / Cat Hotel

This is a shocker. The locals started with raring his own cats that later evolve to a cat hotel and cat caring. He also ‘adopts’ abandoned cat. So if you planning to travel far and long, drop by Sijangkang and get them to care for your cat… with tender, loving and care.

Tebu Kepala? Or Kelapa tebu?

Have you tried this before? If not… give a try.. and they didn’t stop it there. There’s jelly version as well, and tebu masak and everything that is sugarcane. Give En. Mustafa Suratin a call if you want to know where you can experience this thirst quenching drink, if you fell in love with it like we did, you can also place an order for event… they do cater for small and big orders. *hint hint*

Bangkita – Art Lover Heaven!

Ceramic Studio coupled with good looking artist/owner; being the son to the renowned artist Awang Damit Ahmad is a plus (plus plus PLUS) point for you to visit this studio. While you are there, check out their intern’s work as well, you can see how they are richly inspired with their respected mahaguru at HIS backyard. Why here one would ask, well…. With the calmness and peacefulness of Sijangkang, hidden from hustle bustle of Kuala Lumpur, abundant of great food and warm friendly neighbours; it is a no brainer to why an art studio choses Sijangkang as its home. I would too.

And then, there’s Sijangkang Mangrove.

Day 2 | Bugis Junction Day Trip

We did our day trip to Singapore after a full tiring yet fun day in Johor yesterday. We picked Bugis Junction as we thought that was the most authentic place, we also visited the Chinatown and Orchard Road. Strangely I only have pics of Bugis Junction! Hahhahah.... perhaps I have visited these places so many a time that I let them enjoy the pic taking and me shopping for souvenirs (this is very likely what had happened).

Tina also had a chance to meet her darling baker blogger from Singapore, oh yah.... Tina is also a blogger guys; baking-domestic-blog. She's the one who baked the yummilicious Red Velvet Cupcake for us travelholic blogger trip to USS recently and the beautiful Rainbow Cupcake that I've blogged earlier. Promo lak tetiba.... ehehheh....

Day 1 | Johor's Danga Bay & Car Lift (Macam Jepun)

 

This was a 2009 trip, realised I have yet to blog on Johor, Malaysia. Was thinking of doing this before the Travelholic Blogger Trip to Singapore Universal Studio but abandon the idea as I was busy and lazy (more like lazy AND lazy).

Aside, would like to highlight that I do read all comments posted and I do read all your/other blogs just that I am too busy at least till end April plus the fact that I read/bloghop via iPhone hence it's abit difficult to comment and key in that tiny word varification. Sigh.... Once I have the time, I will reply and comment on every blog/comment I read.... you just wait for me yah... (revenge mode...ehehhehe). Please read this entry, every word as the first portion is super silly & funny & DARAT!

Back to Johor please!!! OK! My cousin called me one day and asked whether I'll be interested on a road trip with her 2 lovely daughters to Johor and Singapore. Knowing how travelholic I am, she knows I will jump on any stupid silly excuses to travel. Furthermore, the last time I explore Johor was when I was in Primary 3 or 4; I mean...what better chance/way to reminisce my childhood memory of Johor.

Off we start our journey to southern most state of Malaysia (the Peninsula Malaysia that is), it took us 4 hours or so to reach Johor Bahru, the capital of Johor. All went well, the journey was smooth... the highway was not as winding as going up north, chatty me kept the noise pollution on maximum API level, ahahhaha... but no one was complaining. It's either I entertain you with my chat or you... obviously I won hands-down. I might have exeggerated like crazy here, my cousin Tina helped alot with the pollution too. Hahhah.... There was 5 of us in this roadtrip, Tina, Fatin (my sis), Maira & Misha (Tina's lovely daughter) and of cause my cute self. Hhahahha...

We reached in there late afternoon, easily find the way to our hotel - JA Residence Johor Bahru located on Wong Ah Fook Road. This is where the surprise STARTS....

We arrived near the lobby, and the concierge asked us to park our car at the back, fine and well... Tina drove her car to the back of the building, there we were greeted by the car park attendant which directed us to drive into the building..... We did exactly that, BUT all we SAW was.... WALL!!!! WHERE IS THE PARKING BAY???? Serious!! It's not funny!???! What we saw was a HUGE LIFT!

The attendant ran and press the lift and asked us to drive when the door lift opens! We were like..."THE WHOLE CAR INTO THE LIFT!!! JUST LIKE IN JAPAN MOVIE!!!!!"

Fatin and myself decided to take pics of the whole experience so we stepped out.

Tina selected the floor... it functioned just like the human lift.

Arived at the dedicated floor, the door opens, Fatin holds the lift for us to dash out.

We laughed and laughed at the whole experience.... DARAT and FUN! Ini pun jadik mainan... cam bebudak. I bet not many Johorian knows this... RIGHT! Muahhahahah.... (perasan and evil laugh)

After freshen-up and all, we felt hungry and went hunting for food. We enquired from the hotel folks, and we told them we heard of Danga Bay... do they have eateries here? Yes, and they showed us the direction - off we go.

We then head to Danga Bay and what caught me us was the carnival (banyak nye surprise Johor nih), I screamed and said I wanted to ride and take pics..... CANTEK!!!!! Tina obediently turn in & park.... yeah! I bet she thinks I am childish! Hehheheh....I ran out (kid you not) and start jumping up & down asking them to speed up. Giler slow depa ni...

Oh yah! We saw thing Rumah Kampung (village houses) that is so beautiful and also bump into folks having kenduri kahwin (wedding reception)... love the feel.... (memang boleh masuk).

OK! Somewhere in between we had our dinner obviously...

 Tak kan main jek tul dak... b ut tak da gambo makan as usual ler kan.
