Farm Stay & Activities around Bentong, Pahang

For locals and traveller/tourist visiting Malaysia, if you are game in finding our or experiencing farm stay or activities in Malaysia (psst… its only 2 hours from KL), the you’ve come to the right place (read : blog post). I gonna with you my recent experience spending my weekend checking our farm activities and accommodations around Bentong.

1. Bentong Farm

I was informed that they are building a camp site on top of the hill. Not glamping tau, camping minus all the glams staff lah ofcourse. However, I have a feeling it will be super hot… be weary on the weather and have the right expectation if you plan to camp here. Panas lit-lit tauuuuu.

BUUUUUUUUT, their farm animal is the best so far. BEST BEST BEST! This is one place that I highly encourage you to come over the weekend. They have hedgehog… I wanted a pic with it but I am so scared of it quills. Do you know that the hedgehog cannot shoot its quills to defend itself. Then of course I ran towards the llama and alpaca. Both animals are part of the camel family - Camelidae. Llamas are larger than alpaca, and of course Alpacas have cuter with blunt nose. They also brought me to check out a…. WHITE CROW. Apparently, it is an albino crow – very rare indeed.

2. Bilut Hill Resort

Bilut Hill Resort where one need to drive into palm oil plantation and go further uphill (honestly this scares me abit, perhaps because I rarely get to drive up hill up up up kan or maybe because I am gayat too kot). And when you approach the hill, the view was heavenly, they say you get to see carpet of clouds at sunrise… this certain got us excited.

Aside from staying on top of a hill overlooking the plantation field, there are also rabbit petting area as well fruit orchard around the area. It gave the experience of staying above the carpet of clouds where you can also pet some rabbits, pluck some fruits and ride on an ATV. Did I tell you their room is super best?

3. Bidaisari

This place is heavenly. Everything is perfect… this place is suitable for family day, friends get-together, teambuilding, offsite workshop/bootcamp and even wedding. Kid you not! The rooms are all overlooking the plantation, proper toilet/running water, air-conditioned, clean (haruslah kan), siap ada swimming pool lagi.

Open spaces, plenty of rooms, halls. Horse-riding, fir farm (buah tin), deer park and many more. They also have ATV ride and hiking for those that is really into outdoor. Else you can just chill and bask by the pool, cause the weather here is chilly with rays of sun (gitewww).

4. Sempat T-Farm

Have you heard of the ever so famous Bentong ginger (halia Bentong) that is spicy, tasty and smells nice (I memang suka halia), well…. This is the place.

Here at Sempah T-Farm, you can to understand why and what made Bentong Ginger so famous, how to plant and how to care for it. Not only that, they also demonstrate how to make that delicious ginger drink that we often drink after the spa session. I drank 4 glasses hokkay (punya lah sedap).

They also have camp site where need to bring you tent and food, they’ll provide you kitchen and simple breakfast. You will relive your childhood (depending of your age) cause here you can learn those old (plant) games that our parents played when they were young. A 2D1N stay will be perfect here, plus the air is so nice.

Istana Lemuni, Bentong Gallery & Lurah Bilut Museum – A rare findings

 
I always thought Bentong is a place where my Chinese friends go eat good food, where cyclists escape the hustle and bustle of Kuala Lumpur and where one stops before heading to Genting (fun for some, sad for the rest [shopping and gambling]). Where I was brought during my 3days 2 nights stay in Bentong certainly caught me of guard (walhal dah bagi itinerary siap-siap, Nampak sangat tak research sungguh-sungguh kannnnn….).

So, let me chare with you my experience visiting these places.


Felda Lurah Bilut Museum

Many might not know that there’s a museum on Lurah Bilut, let alone the museum is under/managed by Felda. Me neither. Felda Lurah Bilut Museum used to be an old office belongs to Felda that was built in 1958 and later was renovated and transform to a museum in 2005.

The museum tells us the history of rubber and palm oil plantation, the birth of it and how the locals back that live, grow and make is what we are today. Aside from this, it also touches on Felda history in general. It showcased the journey of labourers, the tools they used, the house they lived as well as town they grew.

Aside from the above, I personally feel maintenance, up-keeping as well as better curation is much needed. Extensive repair work is required for the betterment of the locals, travellers and Felda as a whole.

Bentong Gallery

This is where I learn about Loke Yew. I for one has been hearing Jalan Loke Yew since forever but I never bothered to google on his contribution to the nation. I’m very sure he did, after there’s a road named after him. And, Bentong Gallery on Jalan Loke in Bentong educated me about him.

Bentong Gallery was a two lot 100-year-old shophouses that was served as Loke Yew’s office. Here, he founded Tong Shoon Company and make thos building his headquarter with aim to develop Bentong. History said that the British invited Loke Yew back in 1897 to grow the tin mining business, of course with the blessing of the DYMM Sultan of Pahang.

We were told that in 2017, the owner of the shophouses we renovated and converted into Bentong Gallery. The main objective is to educate the younger generation on the contributions of Bentong’s forefathers towards the development and growth of this beautiful town.  If you are ever in Bentong and have an hour to spend, do drop by.

Oh yah! They also sell the famous Bentong kicap here. YES! Apparently Bentong is famous for Bentong kicap… I bet ramai tak tau kannnn.

Istana Lemuni

Interesting story on a viraled restaurant.

The pro side : Now that everybody knows, it is full to the brim as many wanted to sample the food, experience the ambience and learn the houses’ architecture.
The con side :  Like I said earlier, it is full to a point that guest are required to make reservation and no walk-ins are allowed.

So, the question is on whether the food is yummeh and what type of food do they serves kan. Basically it is lauk melayu kampung ie the belado, the masak lemak, the nasi lemuni, the kerabu and many more. I was told that during fruit season, you can also enjoy fruits from their orchard.

As for the architecture… I love love love. I don’t even know where to begin, the houses were of Terengganu’s bangsawan of which the owner managed to obtain. The 3 units were meant as a family get-away home however the locals and passer-by were so curious that they kept peeping to want to see more, eventually due to persuasion by friends and acquaintances they purchased 2 more units that is now coverted into a balai for their restaurant.

There’s so much more for me to tell, infact I think Istana Lemuni deserves a blog post on its own. And I will write on it more… but mebbe later.

Bilut Extreme Park 2022 – NEW and IMPROVE

Those of you that have been following my blog would realised that I LOVE ATV ride. This is one of the best.

First of all, the ride was at the oil palm plantation, proper rugged road paved for us, secondly, it was a 30 mins ride (wish wish wish it was for an hour). It took us uphill and downhill, and last but not least; we rode to the highest point (or at least that was what I thought at that point of time) and get to see the whole plantation area (rasa macam nak jerit, tanah ni aku punya!!! Not). Oh yah! The best part we rode across the stream. I would love for it to be river but it is too shallow to be called one, well, it’s good enough for me.

Yup! That was the new route I tried, this versus the first time I visited this place half a decade ago… this time around (the new route I mean) is definitely the bestest. I also learnt that they have the whole range of ATV, from the smallest when ATV first started – 1^st generation, 2^nd generation is the 150cc, then the 250cc. And the biggest is the 500cc, more sturdy and obviously bigger – bawak pun lagi best.

I am obsess with riding the ATV in the stream, konon-konon rugged lagi macho gitew. Lepas tuh I sungai tuh terpercik-percik… rasa gempak sesangatkan. Hakikat nya… anak sungai tuh mengalir manja jer. Otak I yang overthinking, as usual.

I tried archery the last time I visited, so I skip this. Done paintball shooting before as well so – skipped! BUT I wanted to try archery tag and human ball but we did not manage to as we were running out of time (dang!)… kena repeat ni. But but but…. Do you know why I wanted to try archery tag? 2 words : Katniss Everdeen.

Aside from that, sukan memanah  adalah sunnah yang dituntut kepada umat Islam untuk mempelajarinya, selain berenang dan menunggang kuda. Dengar tuh sohabat-sohabat ku sekalian…

My suggestion if you plan to do a 2D1N or 3D2N around Bentong/Raub is, that you can stay at Bilut Hill Resort and spend half a day at Bilut Extreme Park. The resort can assist you with the arrangement I believe, alternatively you can also book directly with them. I think its value for money, and a good way to support local.

Bilut Hill Resort | Above the Carpet of Clouds

OK! I have ALWAYS wanted to experience farm stay, and baru tau kat Raub-Pahang pun ada rupanya. Well, not actually a farm stay cause I did not manage to milk the cow nor kutip telur ayam of that sort lah but it was a stay in an orchard with petting zoo and nature. Kira aci lah kan…

The place is Bilut Hill Resort where one need to drive into palm oil plantation and go further uphill (honestly this scares me abit, perhaps because I rarely get to drive up hill up up up kan or maybe because I am gayat too kot. And when you approach the hill, the view was heavenly, they say you get to see carpet of clouds at sunrise… this certain got us excited.

As this is a small locally own resort, everything is managed casually and simply so do set your expectation right, with regards to the speed and service. Plus the fact that it is located on a hill hence give them some time to run up and down to fetch something (or anything for that matter). Oh! And another thing, all your rooms is located further up this hill, hahahhahaha….. bertabah lah naik dengan bag besar. BUT worry not, there is a free buggy service to bring you and your luggage up. OK… lap peluh panic tuh. Ahak.

I learnt that there is a few room category as well as a few type of room (eh, ada beza ke?). Basically, what I mean for room category are : twin sharing, deluxe so on and so forth. As for room type : dome type, all glass walled (kid you not, this room has no bathroom), Greek Island concept, rumah kampung style and many more. Not sure whether you get to choose or no but no harm asking when you do the booking. And I got the Greek Island concept – macam tau-tau pulak I have been to Santorini kaaaan….

If you are wondering how the rooms condition is – it comes proper toilet/running water (except from the all glass walled toom, air-conditioned, clean (haruslah kan), siap ada swimming pool lagi (common pool). To me, this is a great place for weekend gathering with friends, family outing or self-recuperating time. Whatever rocks your boat baby!

Oh yah! Those that followed me on my IG would have known that I signed up for a 30mins hiking trip to catch the sunrise, and yah…. I slept in. Tidur itu lebih indah orang kata. Keh keh keh… Because it was raining the night before so no ‘eye yolk sun’ for them to see. Cian….

And for those who love outdoor activities, I believe they have ATV ride here as well, alternatively you can get the resort to arrange for you to enjoy half a day at Bilut Extreme Park. You won’t regret this.

Plan lah… since it is only 2 hours away from KL kan.

Bentong Farm – A must go, guys!

To be honest, I did do my part by doing some background search on the place. There’s orchard, petting zoo, camp site, fish pond yada-yada… un-amazed with what I read/see on Mr. Google. Not until I arrived at the site, the orchard was ok lah… not my kinda thing. I am more excited with the petting zoo as I love animal (only the cute and gentle ones) and what I experienced was… BEST GILER.

Hedgehog… I wanted a pic with it but I am so scared of it quills. Do you know that the hedgehog cannot shoot its quills to defend itself. And also, a hedgehogs have about 5,000 spines versus  a porcupines have around 30,000.

Then of course I ran towards the llama and alpaca. Both animals are part of the camel family - Camelidae. Llamas are larger than alpaca, and of course Alpacas have cuter with blunt nose. And I simply love alpacas fur, very very soft.

As I thought I am done (after seeing my wish list animal - alpaca and llama), they brought me to check out a…. WHITE CROW. Apparently, it is an albino crow – very rare indeed. In awe, I was. Definitely.

There are many more animals to be seen but I will share with you guys those that caught me off guard, such as the pink cow. Giler besar ok lembu ni, ke kerbau?

And then, there’ wallaby. You need not go to Australia to show you kids a wallaby, just drop by Bentong Farm jer.

Then there’s the famous black swam of which reminded me of Perth, Australia.

 
Recently, Bentong Farm welcomes a new animal friend – Nyala, the beautiful spiral-horned antelope native to southern Africa.

4. Interesting animals : Llama, alpaca, WHITE crow, BLACK swan, PINK cow, wallaby, giant tortoise, hedge hock and many more.
5. The staff knows their stuff, kept explaining to me about the animals

#CyberEcoHunt22 by Alam Flora

Me being my curious self, so I participated in the ALAM FLORA #CyberEcoHunt22.

As the name precedes itself, it is all about our ‘alam, flora, cyber/virtual, eco and obviously hunt’ (I don’t think I need to explain about the 22 kot, oh well…. 22=2022. Kot lah ada yang tak sure kaaaa….).

The one in Kuantan, Pahang impresses me mainly because the route that they took us was basically to introduce and educate us about the services Alam Flora provide to the public as well as creating PUBLIC awareness on general manage our waste. You, me alike; we always thought Alam Flora is about waste management right ie. from our home but NOOOOOOOOOO…. Do you know that they also clean-up the Teluk Cempedak beach? (using this cool beach comber vehicle [first time seeing, teruja kay]. Tak, bukan kutip satu-satu sampah tuh – bila pulak nak habis kaaan) Alam Flora has a Buy Back Centre or BBC to buy back recyclable waste such as paper, plastic, aluminium, used oil and many more, check-out their website to know more/where. Interesting huh.

Here are some of the recycling/upcycling/clearing waste/etc that is new to me of which I would like for my readers to join me and start practicing together. JOM!
 
Bulk/garden Waste

How : Tree branches need to be tied in a pile and put it NEXT to the waste bin (not inside yah). As for tree leaves, it need to be put into the gunny sack and just like the branches; to the waste bin it goes.

Beach Waste/Beach Comber

How : It is a machine attach to a tractor for cleaning ocean debris, such as wood, plastic bottles and food containers at small beaches with ease. It drains the sand and levels the beach surface.

Segregation and Selling of Waste

How : This is what we usually see at the mall – segregating waste according to paper, plastic and aluminium. What makes it even more interesting is actually at the BBC or what I’d say – ‘even our wastes have its value’. All you need to do is to go to Alam Flora BBC and sell your waste, of course you can visit any buy-back centre after all, it is about our mother earth right.

Supervisor 1 Transformation Area (1S1T)

How : This impresses me the most. 1S1T is an initiative of Alam Flora supervisors to make improvements in their respective service areas such as repairing and painting garden facilities, doing laundry activities in public places, beautifying playgrounds by planting flowers as well as repairing drain structures and sidewalks that suffered minor damage. Here you can see them beautifying the playground with recycling old tyres, the dinosaur is a winner.

Reforestation

How : This activity is close to my heart mainly because I have executed this in my old company before. Similar to what I did, this time around we planted curry tree, lemongrass, butterfly pea and few others. We should do this more I feel… on our personal capacity.

 
The one in KL is amazing as well with slight a different touch. Here, we grew microgreens, upcycling shirt, and the ‘tree says’ activities can be implemented anytime and everywhere. These are the things that we know it is there but never bother to do/try/share, it says a lot about us (well… me, at least).

How : We were suppose

One of my favourite, the participant was tasked to write what the tree would say and have a photo taken with it. Some captions were good, like really good.

Microgreen

How : Using a recyclable plastic container, we were taught on how to grow microgreens. It is fairly easy, a 10 mins work since they prepared everything for us. 30 mins if we do the setting and all. Stil…. Easy peasy. This activity is definitely for everyone and anyone – it can be places in the kitchen, garden, balcony, window sill, office… literally EVERYWHERE.

Upcycling Shirt

How : Is about turning our shirt into a very hipsterish bag (the baju must be cool and hipster too lah). Super easy and fun to make, infact I highly recommending this to be an activity during birthday parties. Like Sriously.
 
Green Quizes

How : Participants were given a series of questions to see whether we ourselves  know about any ‘go green’ activities, carbon emission and etc. Educational and not so easy apparently.

All in all, we learnt a lot and had a fun time. Let's heal the world together.
